Ayurvedic Remedies for Acne

Updated: Feb 19, 2020

Acne is a nightmare for a few women. Acne occurs when the plugged hair follicle increases in size and comes out significantly becoming visible and evident. Sometimes the walls of the skin rupture which paves way for the entry of harmful substances and bacteria. This is a major cause of inflammation and skin irritation. There are a lot of factors that cause acne such as too much intake of spicy foods, side effects of medications, lack of exercise, stress and chemical ridden cosmetics.

However, there are a lot of natural ingredients which can help purify the skin from deep within without any side effects.

Ayurvedic natural solutions for acne are as follows:

  1. Take 8-10 pieces of sultana currant (munakka) and immerse in 1 cup of water overnight. Have this in the morning along with the water. This process continuously done for a month removes pimples from the root and purifies the skin.

  2. Make a fine paste of 1 tsp cinnamon powder and 3 tbsp of honey. Apply this on your pimples before you go to sleep and wash it in the morning with lukewarm water. If this is done every day for 15 days, it removes pimples from the roots. If the cinnamon feels strong, decrease the quantity.

  3. Having water stored in a copper vessel cleanses the body and removes impurities and unwanted and poisonous substances. As per Ayurveda, having 2-3 glasses water that has been stored in a copper jar for 8 hours in the morning empty stomach balances all the three doshas in the body.

  4. Apply a mixture of cucumber juice and tomato pulp and leave it on the affected area for 15 minutes before washing it off with water.

  5. Take 2 tbsp of cinnamon powder and 1 tsp of lemon juice to form a paste. Apply on the face and wash off after 15 minutes. If the cinnamon feels strong, wash off early.

  6. Prepare a face pack by adding 1/2 tsp of sandalwood powder, ½ tsp of turmeric powder with some raw milk. Apply the pack and let is stay for 15 minutes before washing off with water.

  7. Grate a potato and extract out the juice. Apply the juice on your skin and let it dry before washing off.

  8. Make a paste of fresh curry leaves and apply on the affected area. Let it stay for 15-20 minutes and wash off.

  9. Prepare a mixture of 1 tsp of fresh coriander leaves juice and a pinch of turmeric powder. Put this on your face after a face wash every night before sleeping. Wash off in the morning.

Ayurveda also suggests that the best way to get rid of pimples is by going on a liquid diet for a day: water, lemonade, coconut water, fruit juices. This detoxifies and cleanses the body, removing all kinds of toxins and impurities. One should strictly avoid fatty, oily and greasy foods at this time. Minimize the intake of salt.
