Insomnia is a sleep disorder wherein a person finds difficulty in sleeping. These people get up a lot of times during the middle of the night and feel uneasy and anxious. Because of insufficient sleep, such people wake up feeling exhausted. Various causes of insomnia include stress and anxiety, depression, emotional imbalance, health issues and external environment factors such as light, noise, etc.
Ayurveda prescribes a few natural remedies that you can easily try at home without any side effects. In terms of diet increase the intake of oatmeal, avocados, walnuts, spinach, blueberries, dark chocolate, milk and cherries. These foods reduce stress and fatigue.
Have a glass of milk with 1 tsp of turmeric powder some time (around half an hour) before going to bed.
Add some lavender oil to your bath tub and bath as usual. You can also sleep with 1/2 oz. of lavender flowers under your pillow.
Have a glass of milk, with 2 tsp of honey half an hour before sleep.
Mix 1 cup of honey with 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar. Have 2 tsp of this mixture every day before sleep.
Have 1 cup of tomato juice with 2 tsp of sugar and a pinch of nutmeg powder in the evening.
Massage the soles of the feet with olive oil before going to sleep.
Make powder of pipala mool and have this 1 gram with 1 gram of jaggery. Have this before going to sleep.
Have half a cup of curd every day with lunch.
Take a head massage with Brahmi oil.
Have 1 raw onion every day in salad during lunch.
Take 1 tsp of Ashwagandha syrup with 1 cup of warm milk.
