Bael fruit - The Best Natural Medicine for Constipation

Bael Fruit / Stone Apple or Aegle Mamelos is an indigenous fruit which is commonly found in India. Although the bael fruit is native to India, but it also grown in Pakistan, Sri Lanka,  Bangladesh, Burma and in many other southeastern countries. In India, the Bael tree is considered to be very sacred and is used during festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva. 


Beal Tree is usually up to 15m tall and contains a bark and a short trunk. This tree has very soft and spiky branches. Bael fruit is very sweet in taste with smooth, woody shell which is mostly yellow. This fruit has very strong yet pleasant odor which remains intact even when the fruit is processed. Bael fruit is widely consumed in India and in many other southeastern countries.


Health Benefits of The Bael Fruit:

Almost all the parts of the Bael tree and fruit are used for medicinal purposes. This Fruit can be eaten whole or can be used in different supplement, and sometimes it’s also consumed in the form of tea. Medical practitioners suggest that use of this fruit can be very helpful in the treatment of different medical conditions, especially in digestive disorders. It also makes the skin feel healthy, glowing and bright. Bael fruit extracts contain anti-viral, antimicrobial, and anti-fungal properties.


A study which was done in 2002 by the Badman et al suggest that all parts of the tree such as roots, steam, bark, and leaves are very effective in treating various human aliments. According to Kumar at all, 2012 fully mature bael fruit is less used in medicines as compared to half mature fruit.


Apart from being a miraculous fruit for the stomach bael is also effective in treating heart diseases, diabetes, and cholesterol. Let us see how bael fruit is beneficial in treating constipation.


Bael fruit is by far considered to be the best natural remedy for constipation. Having bael pulp juice once in a day promotes bowel movement and removes toxins from the intestines. The presence of a compound called tannin is to be credited with the disease prevention property of bael fruit. A study which was conducted in 2011 by Rajan at el, says that the fruit pulp of the bael tree is used in treating gastrointestinal infection.


Diarrhea:

According to a study which was published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine (2009) stated that the unripe bael fruit is highly effective in treating Diarrhea.


Gastric Ulcers

The phenolic compounds present in the Bael fruit are rich in anti-oxidants. These antioxidants restore the balance in the acidic level of the stomach. This imbalance is the main cause of gastric ulcers.


Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Unripe bael fruit can be used to help protect against inflammatory bowel disease. In 2012, a research study was published in the Indian Journal of Pharmacology which supported this fact. Various experiments were performed on rats for testing and the results were seen to be positive.


How to Use the Bael Fruit

Take one whole bael fruit and remove the shell. Take a container and fill it with water. Place the whole pump in water such that it is completely immersed in it. Let it stay for 30 minutes. Now that the pulp has become a little mushy, remove the seeds from the pulp with your hands or a spoon. Mix the remaining edible portion in the water properly. Use a sieve to filter out the mixture. You will be left with certain fibrous portions and seeds in the sieve. Discard these. Pour the sieved part in a glass and enjoy. One can even have this every day with breakfast.
