Side Effects of Having A Lot Of Ginger


Ginger is a herb whose underground stem is used as a spice and as a medicine. Ginger rhizome flesh is white, yellow, or red, and it is covered with light brown skin. It can be used fresh, dried and powdered, as a juice or oil. Ginger contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant components such as gingerols, caffeic acid, capsaicin, salicylate, curcumin, and beta-carotene. Thanks to this, ginger has a big role in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, as well as modern medicine.


Apart from medicinal use, ginger is also used as a flavoring agent in foods and beverages. As a spice, it was traditionally used in Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese cuisine.


Side effects

According to The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, there is very little proof that ginger can cause side effects. Ginger has a very few side effects, and they are pretty rare. Possible side effects include bloating, gas, nausea, and heartburn, and these are mostly associated with using powdered ginger. It is still not conclusively said if ginger is harmful in case of pregnancy. Few reports have shown cases of miscarriage. However, it has been said by experts that ginger can be safely used for treating morning sickness. Ginger has been seen to increase bleeding hence it is advised not to have a lot of ginger near delivery date.


High dose of ginger can worsen heart problems.  Ginger can also notably lower down blood sugar level. Hence, consult your doctor for details on dosage. As per MedlinePlus, large quantities of ginger can lead to minor sedation and sleepiness. The safe limit for every kg of body mass is 2 grams of ginger. Anything more than that can cause some harm.
