Carom seed also referred to as Ajwain is a commonly used medicinal spice. It belongs to the same family as parsley and cumin seeds. Carom seeds are tiny and elliptical-shaped seeds, which are green to brown in color. They are distinguished for their strong taste, which makes it popular as a culinary ingredient.
Carom seeds have powerful pain relieving properties which offer relief against any kind of digestive system related disorders. As a result, it is helpful in case of indigestion, dysentery, diarrhea, gastritis and menstrual pain. It also reduces the pain occurring due to kidney stones. It can be boiled with water or consumed in roasted raw form.
The seeds of Ajwain produce thymol, an essential oil that gives Carom seeds its distinct aroma. Thymol helps facilitate the release of gastric juices which speeds up digestion. The thymol found in Ajwain reduces acid regurgitation, which cures stomach acidity. Carom seeds are also helpful in relieving gastritis, which is caused by undigested carbohydrates.
Direction for use
Stomach Worms: Take 3 grams of Carom seeds powder with a cup of buttermilk. Do these 2 times a day.
Stomach ache: Take 1/4 tsp of Carom seeds and roast them lightly. Have this with a pinch of salt and lukewarm water.
Menstrual pain / Cramps / bloating: Boil 1 tsp of Carom seeds in 2 glasses of water. Boil on a low flame till the water is reduced a little. Filter and drink like tea.
