Ginger is considered a natural remedy to treat a variety of stomach problems. The active components in ginger are gingerols and shogaols. Gingerols are powerful anti-inflammatory compounds that help treat the symptoms of gastritis, cramps, ulcers and acidity. Ginger also contains phenolic compounds that are beneficial for the gastrointestinal tract. Gingerols and shogaols relax the muscles of the intestine. These compounds stimulate saliva, suppress gastric contractions and relieve gastrointestinal irritation. Ginger also promotes circulation and reduces inflammation.
Ginger reduces symptoms of motion sickness such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and cold sweating. As per the British medical Journal named Lancet, ginger is a very effective in treating motion sickness. Ginger is recommended to pregnant women for preventing morning sickness without any side effects to the baby. Various studies have shown that ginger can reduce morning sickness and nausea by 75 percent. To treat dizziness and nausea, you can make some tea by steeping a couple of half inch slices of fresh ginger in a cup of hot water. In patients undergoing surgery, taking a gram or two of ginger an hour before the surgery reduces nausea and vomiting. In many patients, nausea is successfully prevented by applying some ginger oil to their wrist before surgery.
Recipe:
Acid Reflux: Have 1 grated radish (small sized radish) with half the quantity of grated ginger.
Loss of Appetite: Chew a piece of freshly cut ginger before meals.
Loose motion: Prepare a mixture 1/2 teaspoon fennel powder with 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder. Chew this mixture 2-3 times a day. This remedy is useful for curing acute diarrhea.
Gastritis: Have grated ginger and lime juice in equal quantity (1 tsp each) immediately after eating.
Food poisoning: Take 1 tsp of grated ginger and boil in a cup of water. Filter out the solution and add 1 tsp of honey and have it. Consuming raw ginger slices is also beneficial.
Heartburn: Have 1/2 tsp of grated ginger with 1 tsp of honey after meals.
Motion Sickness: Have 1 tbsp of grated ginger before the trip begins.
